Prescribed remedies

The doctor initially suggests medication having benzoyl peroxide. However, if it fails to respond the doctor advises to apply topical treatments or use oral drug.

Topical treatment

Azelaic acid is commonly used topical treatment, which is less painful than its alternative benzoyl peroxide. Topical retinoids contain the goodness of vitamin A and helps to exfoliate the exterior layer. The disadvantage of this mode of treatment is that the skin becomes hypersensitive on exposure to sunlight.

Oral antibiotics

Oral antibiotics are effective against inflammatory acne. The antibiotics fail to unplug the pores. Therefore, oral antibiotics and benzoyl peroxide are both prescribed. However, the increased use of antibiotics may increase the tolerance and resistance power of acne bacteria.

Hormone treatment

Hormone treatment also works but it is advisable to consult doctor before you opt for this mode of treatment.

It may take about 2 weeks to 6 weeks before you could witness any visible result regardless of the treatment you follow. The acne victims must be patient and along with the medication, they must follow a healthy life style.
