Acne can leave bold and ugly marks on your skin. Long after the acne problem has healed, the scars can remain for days, months and sometimes even for years. Epidermis is the outer layer of the skin and dermis is the inner layer of the skin. Superficial dermabrasion removes the epidermis and deep dermabrasion removes the dermis along with the epidermis. However, the deep methods are very effective in removing the scars.

Subcision - This is effective for antrophic scarring. In this method, local anesthesia is used, where a needle is inserted underneath the skin to remove the scar tissue.

Fillers - This method helps to flatten the scars so as to improve its appearance. But the process has temporary effect on the skin.

Punch excision and grafting - The only way to get rid of them is by removing them completely. A cookie cutter like device is used to cut out the scar and the steep edges are sewn. Hence, the deep scar is turned into a tiny one and later blended with the rest of the skin.

Laser Resurfacing - This method uses intense light to destroy the epidermis and superficial dermis. However, it comes with a few side effects.

Chemical peels - Chemical peels synonymous to chemical resurfacing, improves the appearance of the skin. The different chemicals, which are used, incorporate trichloroacetic acid, glycolic acid, salicylic acid and phenol. However, each chemical peel has its own degree of harmful effects. But with the advent of modern technologies, certain peels are proving very useful.
