Homemade Anti-Bacterial Skin Cleanser –Your kitchen cupboard holds the secret to lovely skin

The next time you feel the need to go out and buy that much-hyped anti bacterial skin cleanser, stop for a moment and look into your own kitchen cupboard. Why should you pay a fancy price for something, which you are not too sure of when an easy-to-make homemade anti-bacterial cleanser costing next to nothing would do equally well?

The markets are flooded with a mind boggling array of skin care products, be it skin cleansers, nourishers, toners, fairness creams, etc. Each one promises to work wonders on your skin. The packaging is fancy and the pricing is even fancier. Also the contents listed on the packaging remind you of chemistry classes.

Why not turn to your kitchen cupboard where you are sure to find common ingredients to make an anti-bacterial skin cleanser. At least you would be sure of what you are putting on your face without having to worry about the possible side effects of unknown chemicals.

Of course, before starting to make a homemade skin cleanser, it is important to know your skin type – whether oily, dry, normal or combination i.e. oily t-zone and dry cheeks. Most beauty counters at the malls do skin analysis (hoping that you may buy their products). You may think that you have oily skin but in reality, it may be dry skin that is masking itself as oily.

Once you know what your skin type is then you can get together the right formulation and ingredients needed for your particular skin-type. A homemade cleanser will never harm as it contains all natural inputs. Our grandmothers never had access to fancy new-age creams and lotions yet they had lovely flawless skins; thanks to their age-old recipes for skin-care using home-made ingredients.

Natural anti-bacterial skin cleansers

To begin with your skin-cleansing regimen, drink a glass of warm water with lemon juice first thing in the morning. This helps in flushing out toxins and works from within in keeping the skin clear and acne free.

Tender green coconut water commonly known as `Daab’ is the gentlest, purest cleanser. Infact it can be used to sterilize needles too. Fresh green coconut water untouched by human hands works wonderfully as an anti-bacterial cleanser.

Massaging the face for a few minutes with a little grape juice or wine would help as it contains alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs), which exfoliates the skin gently.

Two teaspoons of Yogurt mixed with one teaspoon of Turmeric should be applied on the face in gentle circular motions and then washed off with lukewarm water. Yogurt and Turmeric have natural anti-bacterial properties and work well as cleansers. Turmeric paste can also be applied by itself.

Water derived from boiling Neem leaves contains anti-bacterial qualities. It is used as a face wash for controlling acne eruptions.

Those with hypersensitive skins and allergy sufferers should definitely try homemade skin cleansers. Most antibacterial cleansers work for most skin types and when you are making it yourself at home you can be sure you have a good thing going for you.
