Acne Removal Medical Treatments – For The Utmost Care Of Your Skin

Millions of people across the world suffer from acne related problems. To control this menace, people are queuing to dermatologists and this has led to an unprecedented demand of acne removal medical treatments.

Know few things before you say hello to medication

There are hosts of medicine that claims to fight against acne, but before you begin your medication, it is important to know the nature of your skin and the severity of acne. For instance, people with oily skin must opt gel-based products. Similarly, people with dry skin have the liberty to use any acne cream. However, in case of sensitive skin, applying any medicated product will further deteriorate your skin condition.

Whatever medication you choose, make sure that it corresponds to the type of acne you suffer from and at the same time it understands the sensitivity of the skin.

Application of over the counter products

The doctor normally suggests the application of good over the counter product for people suffering from mild acne. Benzoyl peroxide, resorcinol, salicylic acid, and sulfur are the most frequently used over the counter products against acne. These OTC products come in the form of lotion, gel cream, soap and pad.

Benzoyl Peroxide destroys the acne bacteria and eventually dries and peels out the exterior layer of the skin. Resorcinol, salicylic acid, and sulfur help to get rid of blackheads and whiteheads. The patient must make note of the fact that it may take about eight weeks or more before you realize any change. In some cases, over-the-counter products cause side effects including redness, burning sensation and irritation.

Prescribed Medication

The prescribed medication includes both the topical solution that is rubbed directly onto the skin and oral antibiotics. The prescribed medication works ranging from moderate to inflammatory acne. Normally the patients are treated with either topical solution or oral antibiotics or a combination of both.

Topical medication

Azelaic acid can be applied, which causes less pain than its alternative benzoyl peroxide. Topical retinoids contain the goodness of vitamin A, helps to peel out the outer layer of the skin. Tretinoin, a topical drug counters the growth of inflamed hair follicles. The applications of this form of treatment are sensitive on exposure to sunlight.

Oral antibiotics

The oral antibiotics destroy the Propionobacterium acne bacteria. Tetracycline is the most commonly used oral antibiotic. The pregnant women must take the advice of the doctor before taking oral antibiotic. However, erythromycin, an oral drug is safe for expecting mothers. Besides these there are other oral antibiotics like minocycline, doxycycline and Clindamycin.

It is often argued that oral antibiotics fail to prevent the blockage of follicle and the over use of it may enhance the tolerance and resistance level of bacteria.

Treatment of severe acne

There are other medications like accutane and corticosteroids that are prescribed by doctor for severe acne. Accutane is effective in case of severe and persistent acne but comes with serious side effects like liver dysfunction, birth defects and may also cause dry and cracked lips.

It is better to consult your dermatologist, before you choose your treatment, as they are the best person to understand your existing dermatological condition.
